LONDON, March 28. One of the discoveries of the last I few weeks has been the cheapness of I wireless telephonic apparatus. The • record is held by a Manchester school inspector, who built a “listen-ing-in” set lor 6id. With a pair of I scissors as his only tool, and such [ simple material as wire, tin foil, anti cardboard, lie was able to pick up . broadcast concerts. Mr Jenkins, the i inventor, says the aerial tuning coils i consist of two circular pieces of card i board, each 3iin in diameter, and each containing nine slots. The ; wire is wound in and out of the slots lin basket fashion, 18 rows in all. j The crystal detector arrangement I consists of two brass paper fasteners, the hollow head of the larger ( one forming the cup to hold the crystal (hertzite), which may be jammed i in between 'file two side prongs or fixed with Wood’s alloy. The other , part consists of one of the prongs of I another paper fastener, bent over so | that it makes contact with the crys- | tai. The condenser consists of three I pieces of paper, soaked in candle j wax, each 4in. by 2in., and two I pieces of tinfoil 3in. by 2in.
