WONDERFUL WIRELESS
A NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENT. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 17. A notable achievement in th") realm of wireless was registered on : Thursday night, when a message ' sent by an amateur at Avalon, Cali- I ternia, was picked up by an Auck- 1 land experimenter. The distance is j 6'JOO miles, and the importance ot ! the event lies in the low power (1 I k.w.), used for transmission, and the ; fact that only one valve was eni , ployed in reception. The sending I of the message was in the nature ot I a test, arrangements having been ; made by Mr A. Spackmann, of Herne | Bay, with Major Lawrence Mott, i Editor of Radio, an American pub- ’ location. The message was also | heard in Sydney, as acknowledgment was sent from there. Further tests are arranged.
