THE TAIERI FLOODS

WATER RECEDING. The Taieri floods have receded somewhat, but water is still overflowing the river banks at Otokoa and Outram. In some places the water on the plains is deeper than in the 1917 flood. The main south road is now clear. There are numerous slips and washouts in the back roads. Some districts escaping in April were inundated. Many culverts, bridges and crossings are undermined and motor traffic is insecure in the southern plains.
