BOXING.
NOTES AND COMMENTS.
(By “Side Step.”) Tom Souter has received letters from Hawera and Stratford, wanting to match Charlie Cann with Geb. Curran, at Hawera on May 19th, and Jack Lockett with Duggan, at Stratford on May 22nd. O. Forward, R. Forward, Hoskin, Freitas, Koorey and Tonisitl will afeo bos at Stratford The second quarter of Tom Souter's school will start on Tuesday next. When he shifts his school to town an advex tisement will appear later. Mackiey , (al 'fightweight), Verram (middle), and Tonisitt flight-heavy), are three boys in Sorter’s school ready for a fight with .my novice at their weights. Jim Savage will probably meet McQuarrie at '..he end of May at Invercargill. Savage bars no heavyweigiit in the Dominion.
Ern Y’oung wants to fight Whittaker, McCleary, Macassey, any time, anywhere. Young-Whittaker would be a good dust up for any association to put on. Jim Sullivan, who beat Bill Bartlett in twenty seconds at Nelson, is matched to fight Whittaker at Westport arly next month. When Jack Lockett meets Duggan it will sharpen him up for the championships in May. Jack Gray will commence training next week in view of the championships next month, it. is up to the association to declare the date and give the boys a chance to get jit. ■ Hughie Dwyer was skittled by Collins in the 19tli round. Hughie won about 23 fights on end. W. F. Corbett wrote some weeks ago: “If Dwyer docs not take an immediate rest he is sure to get beaten,” and Corbett is a shrewd judge. Harry Gunn, for some unknown reason, declined to get into the ring with Charlie Quin for a modest £lOO purse. Harrv is wide awake as to how he got on with Cann at Oamaru. Alf Lewis and Cann want a piece of one another. The medals won by Geo Herd, Freitas, Koorey, Roy Forward and Hoskins were presented to the winners at Souter’s school on Tuesday evening, and the boys wish to thank tlie Shopping Week Committee for their promptness in giving the trophies won. Sometimes tlie winners have had to wait nearly twelve months before the trophies are secured. Fortunately this does riot apply to Wanganui.
