The funeral of the late Mr Robert Tucker took place yesterday afternoon, the body being laid to rest in the Old Cemetery. The esteem iu which the deceased was held was evidenced by the large number who attended to pay their last respects to his memory. The pall bearers were members of St. Paul's session. The service at the graveside was imprerIsively conducted by the Rev. E. R. Harries and Rev. John McNeill. Tho night staff of the “Chronicle' gathered round the stone last evenjng for the purpose of making a pre Iscntation to Mr Ralph Partridge, linotype operator, who is leaving lor Palmerston North. Speeches eulogistic of Mr Partridge were made, fol lowed by cheers, and he was then given a handsome walking stick, a gold mounted tobacco pouch, and a gold eversharp pencil. On the eve of his transfer to Auckland, Mr J. G. Rickerby, who has been chief clerk at the local Railway District Traffic Manager's office dur ing the past two years, was presented by the staff with a case of pipes and tobacco pouch. Mr Young, in making the presentation, expressed ti e regret of the staff at the recipient's departure from Wanganui, but congratulated him on his receiving promotion to a higher position in the service. Mr Rickerby suitably responded, and said that he would always have pleasant memories of his stay in Wanganui and the good feel ing that existed between the staff and himself. Mr Rickerby will fie succeeded at Wanganui by Mr D. Rodie, wl.o transfers from Chris', church.
