Mr E. Hodge, architect to the Wanganui Education Board, as about again after his recent illness.

The Governor-General, accompanied by Viscountess Jellicoe, left for Invercargill by this evening's mail train. Mr H. A. Charles is on a visit to Wanganui, and is staying at the Rutland Hotel

The Hon. C. J. Parr met the Otago Education Board in conference, at Dunedin, yesterday morning and visited several public schools. He returns to Wellington to-day. The Hon. Messrs. Rhodes and Anderson left Dunedin for Tapanui yesterday morning, Sir Wm. Fraser and Sir Francis Bell returned to Wellington yesterday morning after attending a meeting of the Executive Council at Dunedin.

The death occurred in Christchurch yesterday of Mr J. D. McGrucr, the founder of the business of Messrs McGruer and Co., which is so well-known throughout New Zealand. The late Mr McGruer commenced business in Invercargill some 30 years ago, and by his energy and ability, he extended his operations throughout the Dominion, and eventually established some twenty branches, including McGruer’s (Wanganui), Ltd., of this town. The deceased had been in ill-health for some twelve mouths. He leaves a widow, a son and three daughters. Mr J. Worry, tho local manager of McGruer’s, Ltd.,, left by yesterday’s mail train to attend the. funeral.

Mr Vincent Evans. A.R.C.A.. the newly appointed art master of the Wanganui Technical College, will leave London by the Athenic on May 31, and should arrive in Wanganui about the middle of July Mr Evans, who is 27 years of age, holds the A.R.C.A. diploma for painting. He passed the London Board of Education Drawing Examination and holds the Swansea Art School diploma. Ho studied under Sir F. Short, R.A., in the Engraving School, and under Mr Derwent Wood in the Modelling School. Mr Evans Ims also exhibited pictures in the Royal Academy. His presence in Wanganui will lie a decided acquisition to the College and the art lovers of the community.
