MR HUGHES' APPLICATION REFUSED. Received Dec. 2", 9.45 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 22. Mr Justice Adams refused Mr Hughes' application, severely commenting upon the length to whica newspaper might go in its crincs-n of public men, and said lie thought the proper course for Mr Hughes to adopt was to proceed against the Daily Mail civilly. A leader writer in the Daily Mail was called upon by Mr Hughes to show cause why he should not be proceeded against for making a cer tain allegation against Mr Hughes.
