A message states that while the presidents of the Brotherhoods of locomotive engineers, firemen and enginemen have advised members to leave work if their lives are endangered by guards or defective equipment, the president of the Trainmen’s Brotherhood has telegraphed to members asking them not to strike but to refer complaints to the executive committee, which will investigate and decide. OTTAWA, Aug. 10. Fifty American railway engines in a crippled condition are proceeding to Montreal for repairs. It is believed that Canadian workmen will refuse to work on them. NEW YORK, Aug. 10.
