BRITISH WARSHIP LOST.
VESSEL A TOTAL WRECK. FOUR OF CREW SAVED. HALIFAX, August 9. A Cape Race wireless reports that the British cruiser Raleigh has been totally wrecked on the rucks in Belleisle Straits. Four of the crew have been saved. The Raleigh flew the flag of the Com-inander-in-Chief of the North American and West Indies, Vice-Acimil al Sir W. C. Pakenham. lhe vessel was built during the war, was of 9750 tons, and her main armament consisted of seven 7.5 inch guns. THE CASUALTIES. Received August 10, 8.45 p.m. OTTAWA,. August 9. The Navy Department reports indicate that six members of the Raleigh’s crew were lost and the rest saved, including Admiral Packenham. BADLY” AGROUND. IN DANGEROUS POSITION. Received August 10, 11.30 p.m. LONDON, August 10. The Admiralty announces that the Raleigh is badly aground a quarter of a mile west of Point Amour, Labrador. The vessel is now in a dangerous position. The crew have' landed and are being transported to Halifax. It is feared four men lost their lives.
