Messrs Johnston and Co., Ltd., advise that the s.s. Arapawa was due to leave Onehunga on Saturday, 15th inst., for Wanganui, arriving here Monday. She will sail that afternoon for Westport, taking cargo for all northern ports.
The Zita was taken up on the Putiki slip yesterday and is now undergoing overhaul. The Zita is not by any means a new vessel, although by comparison with many other sailers is still “youthful” at the age of 40 years or so. We understand she was originally known as the brigantine Aratapu, which traded to Wanganui many years ago. The Aratapu 'was credited with having a fast turn of speed in those days. Messrs C. F. Millward and Co. advise that the s.s. Storm takes cargo for the south to-day. S. Holm and Co. report:— Holmdale loads at southern ports next week, arriving in Wanganui about the 22nd.
John arrives from southern ports on Sunday, and sails for Wellington and Dunedin on Monday. Zita, now undergoing overhaul on the Putiki slip, sails for Onehunga about Friday next and returns to Wanganui in about ten days. Progress is at present running coal from Greymouth to Picton and Wellington, but will visit Wanganui at end of month.
