BIG CLAIM SETTLED.

The British Government paid the United States Shipping Board twelve million dollars in settlement of the United States’ claim for twenty-two millions for the use of American ships to carry cargo shipments during and after the war. The British Government had contended that the United States owed it twenty-six million dollars on a similar claim, but after a year of negotiations Britain agreed to settle the controversy by payment of twelve millions.
