INTER-VARSITY DEBATE.

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 16. A debating contest for the Joynt Challenge Scroll, in connection with the inter-’Varsity tournament, was held last night. There was a large attendance. The debate was won by Canterbury College, which met Auckland. Otago were considered better than Victoria College, whom they met in the contest. In announcing the decision placing Canterbury first, the judges said it was not very easy to come to a decision, and the first decision was that Otago beat Victoria and that Canterbury beat Auckland. Finally, it was agreed that Canterbury defeated Otago, though only by very little. The proceedings during the debate were at times very rowdy.
