WANGANUI CHAMPIONSHIP. OLD BOYS WIN THE CUP. The games for the Senior Cup Competition concluded on Saturday and the final result is as under:— ■ Old Boys, 28 points; Victoria, 21 points: Imlay, 18 points; College A. 12 points; Wanganui, 5 points; College B. 3 points. The returns for the College A and B teams are not complete, as the secretary has not yet received the result of their two matches against each other. However, this cannot alter the result of the competition, and the Old Boys will now hold the Cup for the ensuing twelve months, having defeated the Victoria C.C. (last year’s winners), and runners up this season, by 7 points. The cricket season will terminate when the following three representative matches have been played:— March 31st and April Ist, against Nelson (for the Hawke Cup) at Nelson. April 14th and 15th v. Manawatu, at Palmerston North. April 14th and 15th v. Kilburnie on Cook’s Gardens. SATURDAY’S GAMES. The Senior Cup fixtures were continued on Saturday, the wickets being soft and outfields very slow after rain. The day was against the batsmen and small scoring ruled. IMLAY V. WANGANUI. Imlay defeated Wanganui with an innings to spare and registered a five points win. Wanganui resumed their second innings with one wioket down for 5, and as Kennedy was absent the board read two for 5. Browning and Stapleton withstood the attack for an hour and put on 53 runs, when Browning was bowled by Brown for a well played 26. Stapleton saw the rest of the side out and played a fine defensive innings. Hyder played a characteristic innings, a straight driven sixer off the first ball from Holland, next a stumping chance, and clean bowled i with the third. VICTORIA V. COLLEGE B. Under the circumstances College B. made a good effort to overhaul Victoria’s opening score of 226, but the task was beyond them. Late in the innings Hay Campbell played really well for 39, while Rev. Austin maintained his good form in getting 31. Miles gave another exhibition of wonderful patience and solid defence, and although he constituted but a modest eleven, it was a veryvaluable innings for his side: VICTORIA.— First Innings .... 226 COLLEGE B.—First Innings. OLD BOYS V. COLLEGE A. Old Boys had six wickets down ar 181 on the previous Saturday, and with two players absent the innings closed for 189. College A’s second innings was a procession and closed for 51. Sladden and Craig got double figures. Owing to the sodden ground runs were very hard to get. Old Boys registered a five point win.
