BARRED FROM RACES.

TRESPASSERS PROSECUTED. A batch of individuals who according to the racing regulations had no right to be on a racecourse came before Mr H. A. Young. S.M., at the Police Court, at Hamilton, ou Monday, charged with being illegally on various racecourses during the progress of the country circuit. One of tho men, Francis Iskerka. said he had been connected with the care of horses for the past 2 4 years and the two paltry convictions which he had against him extended over a period of 11 years. Defendant went on to state that he was not able to do any labour and that the grooming of horses was practically the only occupation he could follow. His weight was scarcely 7st Sib. Iskerka pleaded that if he was convicted he would be prevented from securing a position in a stable. He was fined £5 and costs on each of the two charges. ' George Grant, who was described by Detective Sweeney as one of those “spellers” who followed race meetings without having any settled occupation, was also charged. He was fined £2O and costs. A similar description to that given of the last defendant was applied to W. J. Brosnahan by the detective. Defendant was one of those who followed up all the race meetings in the district, doing no work that the detective knew of. He also was fined £2O and costs. Thomas George Little, whose list was rather a lengthy one, pleaded that his reason for being on the Claudelands racecourse at the time of the recent Hamilton races was that he went there to buy bottles. He was fined £2O and costs. David Stanley Hogg, who was spoken of as a hard working man. a little quarrelsome on race-day's, however. had nothing to say in answer to his charge and was fined £5. Another man. James Ryan, was fined £lO and costs.
