CRICKET. MARTON V. WANGANUI COLLEGE. On the Marton Park on Wednesday a cricket team from the Wanganui College tried conclusions with the Marton Club. Each team scored 121 runs in their first innings, ihe game being drawn. College went to the wicket for their second innings. Afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames Fullerton-Smith, E. Smith and A. Smith, 1 for 6. ATHLETIC EVENTS. On Marton Park last evening G. Blair won the 120 yards hurdles by a few inches from La-wrence with D. Cameron third. Time 19secs Blair also won the 220 yards by a

foot from Lawrence with Cameron third. Time 25 3-ssecs. Sweeney also started in both events. c The following are the points for the Galpin Cup:—Lawrence 20; Sweeney 18; Blair 17; Cameron 15; Knox 10; Gibbons 3. The two final events are the mile and three mile. THE GALPIN CUP. At the Swimming Baths on Tuesday evening there were only two starters in the 440 yards for the above Cup, E. C. Sweeney had no difficulty in winning from D. Cameron cutting out the distance in 7min. 19 3-5 secs. MARTON DAIRY FACTORY CO. Cabled advice was recently received by the Marton Dairy Factory Co., Ltd., that their shipment of coloured cheese per the s.s. Matakana averaged 100/ per cent. The directors have authorised the paymeat of 1/ per lb. for butterfat supplied for February. The exports for the 1921-22 season have already exceeded the total output for last season by over 250 crates and the prospects point toward a very successful year.' MARTON CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY. The half-yearly meeting on Tuesday evening was attended by about thirty members. Mr Wilson presiding. The balance sheet showed:—Liabilities: Share capital account £474 5/7; sundry creditors, £646 7/8; reserve funds £43 9/10; property account £1135 IG/1; interest account £2 6/5; loan capital account £5O 2/10. Assets: Stock in hand at December 31st, 1921, £739 3/10; account books £2l 17/8; scales £2 3 7/10; fittings £26 7/9; Bank of New South Wales £l3 12/5. Profit and loss account. —Sundry creditors account £332 18/3; account books £2 8/7; scales £2 11/11 fittings £2 18/7: rent acount to December 31st, £29 5/; wages £l7l 14/; general expenses £ll2 10/1 — £654 6/5. Amount transferred from trading and goods account £B6 7/6; entry fees 12/33; balance at June 30, 1921 £39 7/9; balance £537 18/11 —£654 6/5. The chairman moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet and a lengthy discussion followed. It was eventually decided to adjourn the meeting for a month; in the meantime Stock is to be retaken and a fresh balance sheet submitted. GARDEN PARTY AT TURAKINA. At Ann Bank, Turakina, on Saturday next a garden party will be held in aid of the Y.M.C.A. A number of stalls will be erected, for which produce flowers, etc., have been donated. A charge of 1/ for admission will be made and afternoon tea for 1/. THE ROYAL SHOW. NOT TO BE HELD THIS YEAR. The Council of Agriculture has informed the Manawatu A. and P. Association that owing to the exigencies of finance it will be impossible to hold the Royal Show at Palmerston North this year. It has been hoped that the breeders Wf the Dominion would have provided sufficient funds to. warrant |the holding of the show in 19 22, but the appeal for assistance has been somewhat disappointing. Hence, it has been decided to postpone the first Royal Show until 1923. This,, will, in the ordinary course of events be held in Palmerston North.
