BOXING.

NOTES BY “SIDE STEP.” Charlie Cann, bantam champion, has been matched again with Paddy Pascoe, for March 25th. The last time this pair met, Pascoe fouled Cann in the fourteenth round. Until that time it was a thrilling fight, and the fans will be in for another treat. When Cann fought Pascoe before it was his first fight after his retm-n from England. The Association should get a lift up financially from the coming fight. Rumour has it that Quirke will not be meeting Lockett on the 25th. This is to lie regretted, as a good deal of discussion has taken place as to who is the better of the pair. The preliminaries have not been fixed on yet, hut the Association will do their best to put on good ones. If Quirke will not meet Lodfcettj, Sturrcck, or Wt\idward should be got for him. and some Palmerston light or welter for Lockett. Rusterholta would he a good fight for Rube Howe. Perhaps Symes (heavy) and Young could meet, or Teddy Stewart may be matched to advantage. Jock Strange tells me. he is through with boxing, so he is out of the question. Charlie Cann is in the boom just now. He is matched with Pascoe in Wanganui on March 25th. a return with Lin Robinson at Palmerston, on April 6th, and has been sounded about a match with Hurry Gunn at the Mardi Grass nt Feilding in May. All should be good fights. Cann wifi also meet Bert Facoorev under any Association, with or without a side bet. This Facoorey does not get a fair go. He has had twentylliree fights, one loss. That was to Charlie Cann. Geo. Curran, now of Greymouth, drew with Carr, of Wellington, after a fair exhibition. Bud Ridley accounted for that good hoy Janito last week. This puts Ridley to the fore, as Janito has been the trial horse for Stadium, Ltd., for a long time. Taranaki Association are having a quiet time just now. I believe Eltham will be making a move next month. Paul Hannah, who beat Carl Callaway at Nelson recently, is matched with Les Murray for the N.Z. championship at Napier. A good fight should be the result. Geo. Thomas has his school at Castleeliff in full swing just now. The Wanganui championships sliojild be held early this year in view of the New Zealand championships.
