THE SUMMER FIREPLACE.

When unsightly spots mar the freshness of glazed tiles in fireplaces, they should be rubbed with a piece of lemon, to make them disappear. The tiles must afterwards be polished with a soft rag damped with a little oil. The grate, in summer, may be decorated with plants, or filled in with a Japanese parasol and a palm or azalea placed at each corner. Pretty effects for the summer fireplace, again, may be obtained with saucers or plates filled with hempgrass. Take a soup-plate, fill it with earth-mould and plant in it hemp-seeds, which will soon yield lovely grasses. A few of these “grass plates” in the heart will be pretty and cool-looking to the eye and form a cheap decoration for a sitting-room.
