CORRESPONDENCE.
TEPID BATHS. Sir, —A certain anonymous citizen rushes into print in Thursday’s issue of your paper with an hysterical denunciation of tepid baths and those who advocate them. Till, anonymous unwashed blatherskite takes it upon himself to attribute the splendid work done in the interests of swimming by Mr, Reid, President of the local Centre, to a desire by Mr. Reid “to keep himself in the public eye.” Much as one must admire the delicacy of feeling which prompts your correspondent to hide his personality behind the unobtrusive nom-de-plume of “A Ratepayer,” it is only right that his fellow-citizens should have the opportunity of studying the doings and emulating the example of one whose knowledge enables him with a few phrases obviously chosen at random to prove to his own satisfaction the absolute lack of sense and even of common honesty of the swimmers of Wanganui and their leader. Sir, it is unnecessary foranyone to attempt to prove that tepid baths are a necessity for a town the size of Wanganui. The “whims and fancies” of those who according to your correspondent “made tepid baths a fetish,” are directed solely to the benefit of the younger generation, and of generations yet unborn. This letter is merely a protest against brainless idiots, whose ignorance prompts their anonymity, ventilating their spite in the public press against a project which no doubt because of their personal habits does not appeal to their distorted sense of fitness.—l am, etc , RALPH BROWN.
