CONFIDENCE TRICKSTERS.
DRAMATIC ARRESTS. Received March 10 1 a.m. LONDON, March 9. Tlie Daily Chronicle reports a dramatic development in Scotland Yard’s hunt for a gang of confidence tricksters who, in 1921, carried out frauds involving £25,000. London detectives arrived at Dublin and took over John Bernard, whom the Irish police had arrested at Carslile pier, KingAstown, when about to board a mail boat. Bernard is an Australian 35 years of age. He ha.s had a romantic career. He had been staying at a fashionable hotel in Dublin, where, it is alleged, he and a confederate fleeced wealthy people. The men also played split ace and Anzac poker on a racecourse. When five others of the gang were sentenced. Bernard was in France. loiter he went to Italy, Spain and Portugal, but the Irish police recognised him from his description and so arrested him.
