QUESTIONS IN THE HOUST. Speaking on the Estimates Mr Statham wished to know why, if the Prime Minister was going to effect a reduction in expenditure, which he had promsed, he had presented es. timates which were £1,800,000 more than last year. Mr Massey: “Unless Parliament agrees to legislation I propose that the whole of the £16,000,000 will be required. You have a majority.” Mr Statham: Legislation should have been brought down first. Another member: How are you yoing to make a saving before next March? Mr Massey: I have five months left. Mr Witty: That means saving a' the rate of six millions a. year. I Mr Massey: The whole scheme is ready. ’You will get it all right.
