Young, secretary of the Seamon’s Federation, is reported to have stated that, according to information he had received, there were eight intercolonial and 21 coastal vessels laid up in New Zealand ports at the present time. The tying up of these 29 vessels, which normally provided, work for 552 members of the Seamen’s Federation, had probably thrown out of employment ab..ut a thousand men who followed the sea.
