NOT COMING.
ENGLISH CRICKET TEAM VISIT ABANDONED. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 16. The New Zealand Cricket Council announces that negotiations with the M.C.C. to send an English team to the Dominion next season have not proved successful. When the names of the proposed English team were submitted, the Council was unanimosly of the opinion that the combination was not sufficiently strong, or attractive enough to ensure financial sccess, an’d would certainly be no match for the Australian States. A cablegram was sent embodying the Council’s views and asking the inclusion of Tennyson, Spooner, Gillingham, Bettingham or some players who have represented England. Marylebone Club replied that the team was thoroughly representative, but made n® reference to the players whose inclusion was sought. The Council at a special meeting decided to end the negotiations and withdraw the invitation for the coming season.
