AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

HIS MAJESTY’S. BIG MATINEE TO-DAY. Besides a programme of comedy, topical and scenic subjects, the much talked about feature “Dead Men Tell No Tales” will be presented this afternoon at His Majesty’s. LAST SCREENING TO-NIGHT. A truly wonderful reproduction of Hornung’s thrilling story “Dead Men Tell No Tales” will 'be finally presented to-night at His Majesty’s. Needless to say such a tremendous attraction has occasioned heavy bookings, and patrons are therefore advised to rndke their reservations at their earliest convenience. The famous author of enthralling stories has created new types of criminals in this his masterpiece, and presented many surpassingly spectacular scenes and tense situations. “THE. SCOFFER,” MONDAY. The attraction at His Majesty’s for Monday is “The Scoffer,” which will arouse more than the usual interest among local devotees to the cinema art. This is an Allan Dwan production released through First National, based on the theory that even a religious man’s faith in the Supreme Being can be shaken by adverse circumstances. A powerful dramatic situation is created through bringing to a climar such a man’s attempts to discredit the Higher Power in a comparison with man’s might. An all-star cast of unusual brilliance is announced. MR. LESLIE JEPHCOTT. In addition to a full star programme of excellent pictorial attractions the management of His Majesty’s will present for a short season, commencing on Monday, the young Australian vocalist Mr. Leslie Jephcott, a lyric tenor of remarkable purity whose voice possesses a sympathetic quality that is irresistable. He has a wonderful control and marvellous range and already a brilliant future is predicted for him. There will be no increase in prices, and seats may be booked at His Majesty’s, ’phone 863. EVERYBODY’S. “QUINNEYS.” Commencing at the matinee today, the great English classic “Quinneys,” featuring Henry Ainley, will be screened, together with Antonio Moreno’s thrilling serial “The Invisible Hand,” and Snub Pollard in a screamingly funny comedy “Run ’em Ragged.” Henry Ainley and Isobel Elsom are seen in the English production of Horace A. Vachell’s widely read novel “Quinneys.” This fine production has exactly the essentially human foundation needed for universal appreciation, and is remarkable for what is probably the finest character study seen on the screen in Henry Ainley’s portrayal of Joe Quinney. The beauty and charm of fsobel Elsom, and the allround excellence of the supporting cast, add to the attractiveness of the picture.
