MINERS’ DISPUTE.

SERIOUS TROUBLE AHEAD. WELLINGTON, August 4 Mr. Arbucule, r.eiretiny to the Ne„ Zealand Miners Federation, in reply io tho mine owners’ refusal to consider tue renewal or the Nat.onal: ugiee uent, states that the Faleratioii will not consider local agreements. Tile miners will n.;iit to the last liltcii oetore giving up the national agreemciit. w.neh was only lirou.g! t about alter negotiations have cost.; the Government, miners and owners much money. Now they have trie owners refusing to continue the form of agreement under which the industry is more settled than previously. There can only be one reason for the oxvners’ present attitude, namely, the separation of the miners’ Unions and the busting up of the Federation, so that the oxvners will be able to defeat the Unions singly and enforce the old conditions, which were a disgrace. A preliminary conference such as proposed would be fruitless, as the miners have already decided to stand or fall by the national agreement.

Mr. Arbuckle reiterates his request for another conference to consider the renexval of the national agreement. The miners will cease work if the Arbitration Court makes awards overriding the present national agreement.
