LOCAL AND GENERAL
Make your first duty to-morrow the casting of your vote. The aeroplane plying for hire at Georgetown on Tuesday left on Wednesday morning for Oamaru, but did not get far (reports the Oamaru Mail). The propeller gave way soon after the machine had risen and the engine was at once stopped and a forced landing was made in a hedge. A wing of the plane was put out of action, and minor repairs will be necessary to several parts of the mechanism. The pilot was severelyshaken but unhurt. The sixteenth International Congress against alcoholism will be held at Lausanne, Switzerland, on August 22nd and 27th, 1921. Last year the Congress met at Washington (U.S.A.) under the auspices of the U.S.A. Government, and Sir Auckland Geddes attended under instructions from the home Government and forwarded reports to the Ministry of Health, Home Office, and Board of Trade. Swiss official circles are helping the forthcoming Congress in every way.
