MARTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The Feilding District High School was represented at Marton in football and hockey matches against the Marton District High School boys and girls on Saturday morning. In the football game the local boys proved too superior for the visitors, showing more combination, and although their passing was erratic at times they managed to put up a score of 32 points aaginst their opponents. In the first spell tries were scored by Colthart, McKenzie, Low, Woodham and Finnimore, Carncross converting the last player’s try, the spell ending 17 points to nil. In the second spell Colthart crossed the line three times, and Woodham also scored a try. From a mark Finnimore drop kicked a goal. Finnimore was a tower of strength behind the scrum, whilst Colthart's speed enabled him to do good service as a scorer. Mr G. Blair had control of the whistle. The hockey match was of a more even character, and the first spell ended without any score being registered, although the local girls had the best of thw game. In the second half 4 goals were obtained by Maggie Woolliams, Dorothy Illston, and Maude Tassell. Mr J. Mogridge acted as referee. The teams were hospitably entertained at the High School at luncheon by the local players, and a very enjoyable time was spent by the visitors. The election for the Marton District High School Committee is creating a good deal of interest, and there is every likelihood of a strong committee being elected from those nominated.
