LONDON, April 22. Reilly, an ex-soldier, was shot dead at Ballycar, County Clare, in the presence of a parish priest, who arrived to administer the last rites. As the priest approached the assailants fired the fatal shots into the previously woundd man. The Prince of Wales, as Grand Master, attended the annual St. George’s Day service of the Knights of St. Michael at St. Paul’s. Sir John Findlay and Sir James Mills also attended. TEHERAN, April 22. The Premier has issued a manifesto thanking the British troops for their services. Persia must prepare to undertake her own defence, as she cannot always have another country defending her and then withdraw without reward. Persian Cossacks have taken over all positions evacuated by the British. ADELAIDE, April 23. Mr Barwell, the Premier, addressing a deputation of the wheat milling trade, stated that the Government would oppose a continuation of the wheat pool for another year, and 'would not sanction reference of the question to the farmers by a referendum, but in consequence of other States remaining in the pool, and outside countries preferring to deal direct with the pools, it was decided to postpone a final decision for the present. MELBOURNE, April 23. In the House of Representatives, Mr Ryan’s amendment was defeated by 23 votes to 41. Mr Hughes’ test motion that the paper be printed was carried by 42 to 21.
