W.C.T.U.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held in Trinity Churcu parlour on Thursday, November 4th, there being a fair attendance. Mrs Emmett presided, and also led devotional exercises. Mrs Chapman was welcomed to the union, she having been a member of the Waipawa Union. Arrangements were made for the forthcoming sale of work to be held in St. Paul’s Hall on November 27th, and conveners for stalls were appointed as follows:—Work Stall, Mrs Mariner and Mrs Bott; Book Stall, Mrs Emmett and Mrs Mara, senr; Produce Stall, Mrs W. Grant; Afternoon Tea, Mrs Warwick and Mrs Lpton. The sale will be opened by the Mayoress at 2 p.m. It was decided that a programme be provided for the evening by the L.T.L. and Y. members, and that a silver coin collection be taken at the door. A vote of sympathy was passed for Mrs Hallan in the death of her daughter. Letters are also to be sent to Mrs McKinnon and Mrs Irland, who are both very ill. An extract was read on the splendid stand the Mayoress of Melbourne has taken with regard to the terrible spread of the evil of drinking and smoking amongst the young women of both Melbourne and Sydney, and a letter of appreciation has been sent from our union to encourage her in her noble stand for the uplift of young women.
