LOCAL AND GENERAL.

A largely attended church parade of the local Orange Lodge was held at St. Paul’s Church last evening. There was also a large congregation present. Rev. Evan R. Harries preached a striking sermon on the subject: “Who is the Real Catholic?” The service throughout was of an impressive nature.

A correspondent writes: —Your local evening contemporary, in its leading, or “misleading” columns cn Saturday evening, in referring to the obviously ridiculous theory that the Panama Canal has stopped the Gulf Stream, states: “The Stream is several miles wide and a few hundred feet deep.” The statement will cause much amusement among the school children.

An executive meeting of the Wanganui Brotherhood was held in-the Central JLdl oil Thursday evening last, at which the following were present : —Bros. F. Machin (president), A. Wright (treasurer), F. W. Anslev (organising secretary), K. Horsley and W. Knuckey (trustees), Sister Mrs Upton, Bro. J. Upton, Bros. J. Peters and Cornish. Two letters were received from “The World Brotherhood Federation’s ’ secretary (Bro. W. Ward). After a lengthy discussion, it was resolved to discontinue the “ Brotherhood meeting” owing to the apathy of the public, and tc dispose of the piano by public auction. Music and stands are to be left in the hands of the secretary and Bro. Cornish to receive the best offer. The proceeds are to be.given to the Wanganui Crphanage. It was also' resolved to place on record the executive’s appreciation of the good work done by the secretary (Bro. F. W. Ansleyj and to recognise his services in a practical way. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.

A proposal is on fo»t to establish a meat flour works at Rangataua, near Ohakune. The product is on the same lines as dried milk, and in the household, it is claimed, admirably fills the hiatus when fresh meat is not obtainable. Electric power is to be obtained from the Mangatike stream.
