TOTALISATOR FRACTIONS.
RECOMMENDATIONS BY INSPECTOR. STRONGLY PROTESTED AGAINST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. Mr Skerrott, chairman of the Board of Control of the Sports Protection League, has addressed a letter to the Hon. J. G. Anderson stating that ‘‘Notwithstanding the convincing reasons already given why the present method of handling totalisaior fractions should not be disturbed, the Inspector of Total isator reports that not one sound argument has been adduced why clubs should be allowed co retain these fractions/’ Mr Skerrett objects to the publication of such recommendations, and calls cn the Minister to stop it. He proceeds to contend that the fractions belong to the people who put the money in the totalisatpr. and go back to them per medium of the clubs, who use them lor improvements and additions to the stakes He denies that the clubs retain the fractions at all. Already nearly half a million is drawn by the Government from racing, and it is now proposed to take a further £42,000. He concludes by objecting most strongly to “the extraordinary statements of your totalisator inspector. It appears to us it is no part of his duties to make recommendations relating to matters of policy of which he can have little knowledge, and with which he has no concern.”
