MARTON NOTES.
;(From Our Own Correspondent.) MARTON, September 7.
A very realistic tableau was enacted at the Band Carnival’s Cabaret at the Marton Town Hail on Monday evening. The curtain rose on a wounded soldier lying on ihe stage, when “Bruce,” the Great Dane dog with a reputation, appeared on Lhe scene, with a Red Cross cover on. in search of wounded soldiers. He approached the wounded soldier, and. recognising his master <Mr E. C. Hardy) lay down alongside his body. A Red Cross nurse (Miss M. Gould) attended the wounded soldier, and the firing in the wings brought the dog to his feet with harks of defiance. During the staging of the tableau Master W. Sutcliffe sang with good effect the popular soldiers song. “The Rose of No Man’s Land,” which was heartily applauded. The official notice of the drawing of the gold nuggets and paintings at the Marton Band Carnival on Monday evening appears in this issue. Mr H. Shepherd, manager of ihe Upper Tutaenui Dairy Factory, was farewelled at a social evening at Gould’s Cafe on Monday evening. Mr A. Griffin presided over a large gathering. Mr J.
