CHILDREN’S HEALTH.
MINISTER COMMENDED. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU', Sept 7. Members of the school committees to-night passed riie following resolution : That this meeting express satislactioii at the interest shown by the Mjuisier of Public Health in the welfare of school children as the children constitute one of the most valuable assets of the State; that whilst approving af the compulsory examination of children wo consider that parents should be safeguarded by a schedule of charges under which the scheme be carried outso that no hardship be imposed upon anyone, and that provision for free treatment in cases where parents are unable to pay; that all schools should be subject to the Act—State, denominational or private. We protest against the penal section of the Bill being placed upon the Statute Book unless some such protecting conditions are attached thereto. Provision is also required for special facilities for the transport of children of small country schools required to visit larger centres lor treatment.
