ARCHBISHOP MANNIX.
NEW YORK. July 28. Tb’o correspondent asked Commissioner Sheldon: What is your opinion of Archbishop Mannix’s utterances in America ? Mr Sheldon replied: “No serious attention has been given to Archbishop Mannix, and if his object is generally understood it was to obtain the support of the Republican and Democratic Conventions for the recognition of the Irish Repub’ie. His mission signally failed. Tliqm demonstrations in honour of Archbishop Mannix in the United States were exclusively carried out by militant anti-Britishers, and Americans are accustomed to sporadic outbursts from men of this class, and do not pay any serious attention to them.” Archbishop Mannix stated that he hoped to visit Ireland en route to Rome, but. must abide by the British decision. WILL VISIT IRELAND. NEW YORK, July 28. Archbishop Mannix stated: “J do not mean to alter my plans because of threats of what may happen to me if 1 land in Ireland.”
