I NEW YORK. July 27. I It is announced that Dempsey and i Miske have signed articles for a tenround match at Benton Barbour. Michigan. Dempsey is to receive 50,000 dollars, win, lose, or draw, and Miske 25,000. AMATEVB CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Per Press Association.) HASTINGS, July 29. The finals in the New Zealand Amateur Championships were fought to-night under the auspices of the Hawke's Bay Boxing Association. Results: — Bantarrts: C. Maddox (Hastings) 8.0. beat W. H. Leckie (Otago) 7.12. Maddox won a fine fight. * Featherweighs: H. Gunn (Timaru) 8.10%. beat C. Chisnall (Christchurch) 8.10. The decision was not altogether approved by the house. Lightweights: A. Mussen (Christchurch) 9.11, lost to Desmond (Wellington). 9.8. After -a splendid even fight Desmond was declared the winner —this was received with a mixed reception. Welters: D. Dawless (Gisborne) ' 10.6, beat L. O’Neill (Greymouth) 1.0.344. After a great light Lawless won on points. Mid<l leweights: H. North (Otago) 10.13, beat P. Gillespie (Manawatu) 10.12. North showed more science and was awarded the fight. Heavyweights: B. McCleary (Ashburjton) 11.9. beat M. J. Brownlie (Hastings) f 1,2.8. The greatest fight of the evening. McCleary held command and winning the championship amid loud applause. McCleary was carried shoulder high from the ring.
