ST. JOHN’S BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the St. John's Bowling Club was held on Saturday evening in the Central Hall, the president (Mr G. Simpson) in the chair. There was a large attendance of members—the largest in the history of the club. After the confirmation of the minutes of the last annual meeting the report and balance-sheet for the past year was taken as read. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the president expressed his pride and pleasure at the remarkably successful record of the past season. He also expressed his gratification nt the satisfactory position disclosed by the balance-sheet, which showed that despite considerably increased expenditure the club’s indebtedness had been reduced by £6O. In conclusion, Mr Simpson paid a warm tribute to the excellent work of the club’s green caretaker, Mr Whetton. The motion was seconded by Mr J. B. Jack, and was carried unanimously. Messrs W. Murray, J. Findlay, E. J. Evans, J. Goss, T. G. Hackshaw, W. Laird, S. Woods, A. Stevens, G. Meuli, J. Ford, and Dr U. G. Williams were elected to membership. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr G. R. Simpson (re-elected 1; vice-presi-dent, Mr E. Scrivener; hon. secretary and treasure.', Mr W. M. Faulkner; committee, Messrs Moffatt, Williams (Rev. A. O.), Sewell, Jack, Herd, Robertson. H. Christie, Benefield, and Rowling; hon. auditors, Messrs Bell and Anderson; delegates to centre, Menssrs Fraser. Scrivener, and Sewell: selection committee, Messrs Moffatt, Simpson, and Scrivener; green superintendent, Mr J. B. Jack (relected); entertainment. committee, Messrs H. Christie. Brass, Herd. Rice, E. Christie. It was rseolved that an entrance fee of £l/1/- be charged to all joining members after Ist August. A motion proposing that the name of the club be altered was withdrawn. It was resolved that the annual 'social be held on a date to be arranged by the entertainment committee. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lady friends of the club for their kindly services to the club. A motion expressing sympathy with Mr Broadhead in his illness, and hope for his speedy and complete recovery, was unanimously endorsed. The retiring secretary, Mr J. Robertson. was enthusiastically accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A similar courtesy was extended to Messrs Moffatt and Jack and the caretaker. Mr Whetton. It was resolved that the caretaker’s salary be increased by £1 per week. A vote of thanks to the chair brought an enthusiastic meeting to a close.
