i Albert Pooley, who Is to meet i Tracey on Friday, arrived in Wanganui yesterday morning. He is staying at the Metropolitan. Mr A. S. Wilson, of Perth, Western Australia, who was recently appointed general secretary of the Auckland Y.M.C.A., arrived by the Maheno last week. He is accompanied by Mrs Wilson and their son. W We regret to hear that Mre C. J. Swan, wife of Dredgemaster Swan, is a patient in one of the local hospitals. Mrs Swan, who has had more than her share of illness, is, we understand, suffering from a fractured limb caused by a fall. My J. H. Baxter, who for the past three years has occupied the position lof accountant in the Wanganui I branch of the Union Bank, has been notified of his transfer to the Auckland branch. Mr Baxter’s many friends will be pleased to learn of his well deserved promotion. He leaves for the northern city next week. The death is announced of Baron Russell, the distinguished journalist, who for the last fifty years has edited the Liverpool Daily Post, of which he was appointed assistant editor in 1860. He was better known as Sir Edward Russell, his elevation to the peerage dating only a few months iback. He represented the Bridgetown Division of Glasgow in ParliaIment from 1885 to 1 887. but resign, ed his seat in that assemblage be- , cause he found his duties incompatible with the proper discharge of his editorial work. He was created a Knight Bachelor in 1893. Mr Northcote Rowe, who has been a member of the engineroom staff of I the “Kaione,” has resigned his posiition.
