A MEAT SCANDAL.

LONDON, Feb. 7. Six Newcastle food officials were charged with wasting 1325 carcases of Australian meat received in July, 1919. which were unreasonably retained until September, when they were unfit for food. The accused include the local Live Stock Commissioner, the Aren Meat Agent, and members of the Meat Distribution Committee under the Food Controller. The Magistrates dismissed the case. The defence argued that the committees’ only power over frozen stores consisted of releasing them when there was a shortage of live stock
