INFLUENZA.
SERIOUS OUTBREAK AT THURSDAY ISLAND. Received February 10, 10.5 p.m. SYDNEY, February 10. Influenza at Thursday Island is serious. The Government has been requested to send doctors, orderlies, and drugs. CHRISTCHURCH REPORT. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 10. From noon yesterday to noon today thirty notifications of influenza (all of a mild type) were made to the Christchurch hospital authorities. There were six admissions to the hospital in the same period. At present there are twenty influenza patients in the hospital, ten being mild cases and ten pneumonic. The majority of these cases are concerned with relapses due to the sufferers leaving their beds too soon, or from some form of neglect necessitating removal to the hospital for treatment. The hospital officials regard the position as quite satisfactory, and the impression is that the epidemic is on the wane. ABATEMENT IN NELSON DISTRICT. (Per Press Association.) NELSON, February 10. Medical men report abatement of the influenza outbreak in this district.
