SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM.
MR. R. BELL’S GIFT ACCEPTED. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. Mr Robert Bell's gift of £3OOO to the Canterbury College to establish a school of journalism was brought before the Board of Governors of 'Canterbury College to-day, when Mr 1 Bell's letter conveying the gift and jsetting forth the conditions was : read. Mr Acland (chairman) moved that ;the letter be received; that the 'board gratefully accept the generous gift, and write to Mr Bell thanking lhim; and that the conditions shohlrf> be referred to the Professorial Board for consideration and report. He said that it was satisfactory to note in connection with the gift that Mr Bell had not waited for the letter to be written by his executors, but had made the gift in his lifetime. That fact showed Mr Bell’s very great generosity. It was noticeable that within the past year Canterbury College had received far more in the way of gifts, such as Mr Bell's or gifts by wills, than it had received in the whole of the previous 46 years of its existence. He hoped that the ex-' ample set by Mr Bell would be fol lowed by other Canterbury citizens.
