CYCLING AND ATHLETICS. (Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, Jan. 2. The New Zealand athletic and motor cycle field sports championships were brought to a conclusion to-day under Ideal weather conditions. The attendance totalled three thousand. Last evening the committee considered a protest by Findlay, who came second in the running long jump championship, on the ground that that event was not held according to the conditions. To-day the committee decided the event should be held again, the result being that F. Findlay (Napier) jumped 17 feet 9 inches, beating R. Hansen (Gisborne) by one inch, and winning the championship. The results of to-day’s events are: Motor Cycle Handicap, up to 600 c.c., ten laps.—W. Sweeney (Palmerston North) 160 secs. 1, H. E. Bloomfield (Gisborne) 170 secs. 2, K. Cameron (Gisborne) 160 secs. 3. Australasian Motor Cycle Handicap, open, fifteen laps (first prize £6O). —S. Whitehead (Gisborne) 80 'secs. 1, G. Powell (Gisborne) 45 secs. 2, K.
