"HELP YOURSELF" SHOPS

the newest. Time-saving idea

Many of our big, shopping schemes and ideas have started in America (says Pearson's Weekly"). Till some of the big and enterprising American firms came over here, for example, there was hardly anything like a b.g store where you could buy not only everything you wanted, but where you could get any information you needed, buy your theatre tickets, have a meal in comfort, and so on. Places like Woolworth's, though familiar to every American, hardly existed here.

Now the ■ Americans have started a new shopping idea, which is proving so popular that it will not be long before it is tried here. *

The idea is the "Help yourself shop." The principal class of shops which have tried it is the grocery store, and all a customer does 3S to walk in the shop, take just what things she wants off the shelves, and pay as she goes out! At the osit to "the .shop there is a ttirnstije through which every customer has'to'pass. Here there.is an attendant who checks the goods taken, packs them* np.and takes the money. This way of shopping not only saves an immense amount of waiting, but enables the shoppers to get their shopping done in half the time of an ordinary grocer's shop. •■.-■'■
