SECOND DAY
, : OTAKI, Sept. 22. ■^he second day of the Otaki ■meeting was held in dull weather. Rain fell during the afternoon. The meeting was again marked by a decrease m.attendance as well as totalisator receipts, which totalled £14,161. Results: — Trial. —3 idleness (L Morris), 1; Moutoa Boy^AH. Lowe)", 2; 1 Sweet Memory lEmersou), 3. Also started: 2'Haeremoana, 4 Sunburst, 8 Stolen Triumph, 7 Preface. From a good start Idleness led, followed by Haeremoana. At the entrance to the straight Moutoa Boy anci Sweet Memory challenged the leader, who won by two lengths, a length separating second and third. Time, lmin. 3
.Dominion Hack. —2 Royal Exchange (A Reed), 1; 1 B-eloved (McCormack'),' 2; 5 Utuwai (R. Reed). Uj Also started: 1 Sacramento, 4 ■Vlaymorn 7 March On, 4 Consultation, 6 —usset. From the start Russet took command, with Beloved and fioyai Exchange handy. This position was maintained till entering the 'straight, when Russet fell back, leaving them to fight out the finish. Royal Exchange, won comfortably by two lengtns. Time, lmin. 29 2-5 sec.
Steeplechase. — 1 First Line (Kaan), 1; 3 Pawerewere (Adams). 2;. 4 Goldstream (Burt), 3. 2 Want also started, but fell after traversing a mile. Pawerewere led the veld till entering tlie straight when First Line overhauled him and won easily. Time, 4min. 54 3-ssec. Presidents Handicap.—3 Old Gold (L, Morris), 1; 4 Pacific Slope (Emerson), 2; 2 Moutoa Ivanova (McCormack), 3. Also started: 1 Mascot, 5 Detroit, 6 Spangle. Detroit led all the way till well up the straight, with Old Gold handy. The latter came with a well-timed run, and won by a length, Moutoa Ivanova being close up. Time, lmm. 46sec.
Electric Hack.—l Arch Lassie -(L. Morris), 1; 2 Red Signal (H. Young), 2; 9 Restful (C. Reed), 3. Also ran: 6 Samarang 4 Wonder, 3 Chaeronia, 8 Matty, 7 Pvintemps. o American*' Beauty. Wonder, followed by Red Signal, led for the greater p»^rt of the distance, out were overhauled in the straight by Arch Lussie and Restful, the former winning by a length. Time, lmin. 2 l-ssec.
1 Railway Handicap.— 1 Astinome (T. Young), 1; 4 Trentham Rose HReidJ. ■ >.2; 2 Matatua (Enier: son), 3. Also started: 3 Birkenvale. Trentham Rose led by several lengths the greater part of the distance, and was only overhauled near the post, and beaten, by th>«je-parts of a length, after a good finish. Time Imin. 15sec
Rahul Welter.—2 i)ick (Emerson), 1; 3 Railand (Kaan), 2; 5 Pervolo (Lowe). 3. Also started: l Manu, 4 Master Boris. Pervolo was first out, Master Boris next. Halfway up the straight the field closed up, but nearing home Dick came away and won by two lengths a neck separating second and third. Time, Imin. 44 o-ssec.
Waitohu Welter.—s Tyne i.C. Emerson), 1; 4 Sweet Tipperary (A McFlynn), 1; 1 Ahika (A. Reed), 3.' Also started: 6 Prince Delaware, 2 Flash Lady, 3 Sir Wallace. Tyne ted throughout and won by two lengths a neck separating second and third.
