TECHNICAL COLLEGES.
WELLINGTON, September 11
The conference of members 'of boards and directors b- Technical Colleges decided to recommend that Technical Schools should be granted separate representation on the Council of Education, and that Technical School Boards have a voice in electing representatives on the University Councils of their districts.
Remits were adopted, stressing the desirableness of some definite system of payments, whereby boards,,-would be able/to finance salaries., and general working expenses, without depending upon donations.
Among the remits passed were the following:—"That the stanfing of Education Boards and controlling authorities should be abolished in the case of technical institutions incorporating Technical High Schools." "That it is essential that an aggressive policy in regard to agricultural education should bd developed." "That the present inadequate finances of Technical High -Schools prevents this in our schools; aha that the Minister of Agriculture be t.rged to pay Technical Colleges for each Technical High School boy taking a recognised agricultural course a capitatiion equal to haif th?.t paid by the Education Department, and additional to it."
It was decided that the conference should be held annually.
