RETROSPECTIVE PAYMENT OP
ALLOWANCES

WELLINGTON, August 14
I The Returned Soldiers' Association, in the course of its statement to Sir James Allen, presses for the immediate settlement of the retrospective application to children of the amended scale allowances which came into force on January Ist, 1918; the retrospective application of the amended scale of allowances for widowed mothers and dependants at present in force; the payment of the one shilling: per day unpaid during the first two years of the war for the probationary period of a month after entering camp. The statement concludes: We claim these are honourable and just debts incurred by a rich and prosperous country toward the dependants of those who, by their valour and suffering, have saved her the humiliation and ruination of defeat, and should be at once honoured
