EASTOWN BAND OF HOPE.

The opening meeting for this session of the above was held in the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday evening. After the opening exercises the president (Rev. G. Blair) extended a hearty welcome to all present, after which the members stood and renewed their temperance pledge. An interesting programme had been provided to which the following contributed, all the items being well received and many of them were heartily encored: — Songs: Essie Whitcoirtbe, Alex. Whitcombe. Nan Blair, aud Mr Marshall. Recitations: Thelma Boyd, Moira Turnbull, Dorothy Coward, Dorothy Black, Jean Whitcombe, Chrissie Munro, Laurie Salt, Eric Harkness and Neil Blair. Flute solos: Cecil Foster. Dumb bell exercise: May Blair, Scouth Haka, lnnes and Colin Harkness and Maurice Larking. The Eastown Orchestra (Misses Brown, Walpole, Whitcombe and Coleman), played several selections. The accompanists were Mrs Whitcombe, Miss Dulcie Brown adn Mr Clifford Walpole. An enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
