DOMINION DAIRY SHOW.

THE HAWERA EXHIBITION.

WRETCHED WEATHER.

[By Our Special Reporter.]

- HAWERA, July 2. .. People's Day at the tenth _)oniin« ion and Great Peace' Snow was hel*f-to-day in weather conditions of a very wintry nature. Rain fell heavily with but little cessation during the day, and tbe bitter cold was not conducive to making a record-break- ~ ing attendance. Despite the big handicap of the dislocated train arrangements and the climatic conditions, the Show must be written down as a great success, the entries being more numerous- than those- of previous years, with the quality of . the. exhibits advanced generally. iA * special feature of thep resent exhibi- <- tion is the great display of macbin- \ cry, farm and milking, while there is < an imposing and valuable array of , motor cars and trucks, the whole fill- [ ing the fine big sheds recently erect- ' cd. Home industries, schools, and -| other sections have already been ' judged, and to-day the officials com- J menced on the large number of poul- **- try exhibits. As in. the past the • schools have been very well catered for, this year with the happy result that in about ninety classes^ for the students there were close on* a thousand entries, coming from all over the province, and as far afield as Petone, Masterton, Hamilton,. Taihape, Marion and Wanganui. The big event to-day was the.Taranaki-Wel-lington football match, but this was marred by the weather, which*.made ... playing conditions anything but pleasant. The Show secretary, Mr L. .' Hooker is to be congratulated on the manner in which all the arrangements were made to work smoothly to everybody's satisfaction.
