PASSING OF A PIONEER.

The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr John Annabeli, senr., after « short illness, at the advanced age or 73 years. Mr. Annabeli was a well-known surveyor. He studied his profession under tho lat»» Mr J. W. A. Marchant, ex-Surveyor-General, and assisted in the original surveys of the Taupo and Wauganui districts. Mr Annabeli was a Maori W:ar veteran, taking part in the TarannKi and East Coast campaigns. He took a prominent part in Methodist church work, nd at one time was .t trustee of Tiinity Church, and was for many years a Sunday School teacher. Mr Annabeli was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He is survived by a brother, Mr J. A. Annabeli, of Ngamataponri. Waitotara, and a sister, Mrs. "Boyle, of Hastings. He leaves a widow, seven sons and four daughters, all of whom are at present in Wanganui. Stanley Annabell, Dargaville. The daughters arc Mesdames Hutchins, l<V>rdell; Huckstep, Gonville ; Bowman, Dargaville; Parker, Tokomaru Bay. The funeral will take place at 2.-°0 on Friday afternoon, at the Aramoho Cemetery
