ANZAC DAY INCIDENT

\ A man named Colenian (Mr Mackay) was charged with using insulting language tig Senr-Sergt. Boiirke. | Inspector Hendrey said that at the. laying of the foundation stone at the Soldiers' Club on Anzac Day the police [were keeping an area in front of the 'platform clear, and defendant, who came into the open space was shifted to the side line by Senr.-Sergt. Bourke. Accused then used words which might have occasioned a serious bfljaeh of Ihe peace. Evidence was given by Senr-Sergt. Bourke and three other witnesses, who said no undue force was used in putting defendant back amongst the crowd. The polico stated that defendant kept talking at Sergt. Bourge for abr»irt fifteen or twenty minutes after he was put back. ] The defendant said that considerable force was uped to nut him back, and he deni°<? usine: all the words attributed to him. His son was among the returned solrVera. William Tavlor, who gave evidence for the defence, said defendant wa<* excited and aggravated by a threat by Sernt. Reid, to lock him up. James McGrath considered considerable force was used to put the defendant back. His Worship said it was quite evident that defendant was whore he should not have been, and in puttm-r him off it put him ou«- of .temper.
