WAR REGULATIONS.
WELLINGTON WATERSiDERS WANT REPEAL. WELLINGTON, May 10. A large deputation from the Waterside Union waited this morning upoa nzembers of the Cabinet at present in Wellington—Sir James Allen, Sir Win. Fraser, and the Hon. Myers—urging the repeal of the War Regulations. The speakers referred especially io the regulations bearing on the worK on the waterfront and seditious utterances, and contended that the regulations were now unjustifiable, as tulwar was over, arid they had been arbitrarily enforced recently, particularly in the conviction of William Parker for publishing seditious pamphlets, and in the exclusion of Bydney Fowinier and others from the wharves. Sir James Allen, replying, said the whole of the regulations could not b« repealed. If the watersiders indicated what regulations they desired repealed, the Cabinet would give the matter very careful consideration. He emphasised the unfeairability at the present time of creating class dissension, and contended that the pamphlet published by Parker was of this character. He said the whole desire of the Government was to- protect shipping, seamen, and the public generally. There had been every necessity for this; , ... Mr Myer3 emphasiced th» necessity for all classes of the community learning the point of view of th« others. Sir .fas. Atte'n and Mr Myers expressed their willingness to attend a meeting of the Union and speak . thereat about the War Regulations, and Mr Glover stated that such a meeting r, ould. be arranged. ;.
