LORD FRENCH'S BOOK.
REVELATIONS OF WHAT MIGHT
HAVE BEEN,
LONDON, May 8. The Daily Telegraph publishes the following extract from Lord French's book: "On the 31st August, 1911, Joffre's demand that the British stand and fight was urgently repeated spd backed by messages from Poincare and tho British Government- yet simultaneously the Fifth French Army was being thrown back and widening the gap. While Lord Kitchener was assuring the Home Government that our losses were small and the deficiences made good, neither on this or several subsequent days did one man, horse, or gun reach me." Lord French adds: "I profoundly believe that if I had yielded to these violent solicitations the whole Allied army wouV.l have been thrown back over the Marne, and Paris ivould have fallen.'
